Grayson Turns 1!!

Oh my!  Grayson is already 1!  What a chunky nug!  It was great to be out in Utah so that we could have family over too!  Gram, Pop, the Seawrights AND Andrew all came up from Provo, and Alyson came over too!  We did some decorating around the house to get ready, and here we all are in front of Grayson's birthday banner.

The week started at Gram and Pop's house.  I went downstairs and found all the girls playing a game of bananagrams.  I'd love to know some of those winning words, though looking at the spelling it probably wasn't too hard to get all their tiles down.

Grayson still does not feed himself.  He doesn't stick anything in his mouth, which sometimes is nice, and mostly pretty inconvenient.  If he's eating his food and decides he'd rather have something different or doesn't like it he'll try to spit it out, but since it's his mouth he still refuses to use his hands.

I took Grayson out for a walk, and Jack wanted to join us.  We headed around the corner and over to a park near by.  There is a pretty great duck pond there, and Grayson loved watching the ducks, so we stopped for a while.

We continued around the pond, and on the other side there was a family that had brought bird seed for the ducks.  I guess ducks love wild bird seed.  The other people had brought a big bucket of it and shared some with Jack.  After a bit Jack even started feeding them out of his hand!  So I asked him for some seed so I could feed them too!  Never fed a duck out of my hand before.

On Monday (probably) we got stuff for the kids to make haunted gingerbread houses.  They all had a lot of fun, and I took a nap on the couch!  When I woke up I was asked to judge the houses, and gave everyone an award.  They were all so great!

On Tuesday (I think) we were getting everything ready to head up to my parents house.  We asked the kids to get dressed, and had socks for them to put on (socks are uncommon when it's hot).  Winry came up and I said something like "Winry, can you put your other sock on" and she replied "I have both socks on!"  Yup, she put them both on the same foot.  Can't get upset at that!

On Wednesday Niki invited us over to lunch at her house.  She's done a lot of Halloween decorating in her house and we had to see all that.  She had a lot of cool decorations like jars of "spooky" things and bats and crows.  It was really cool to see it all.  She even got a skeleton and washed it for us to make lunch in!  It was really fun, and everyone had a lot of fun putting it together.

After lunch we headed to the backyard to do the donuts on a string game.  Here's a picture of everyone taking a turn, and of course I have videos too!  Here's Winry, me, Brooke, and Niki.

Thursday was Grayson's birthday.  Here's Grayson helping me put together his balloon arch.  He was very... "helpful."

Monica made a smash cake for Grayson and cupcakes for everyone else!  They all looked super great!

Monica helped Grayson open his birthday presents.  He seemed to have fun getting through everything.

The important thing to note in this next picture is the duck.  That will be very common through the rest of the pictures you see of Grayson (probably forever).  Alyson saw some and taped a few to the top of his present, and he absolutely LOVES the doctor duck.

If we leave the bathroom door open, Grayson will sneak in and loves to unroll the toilet paper!  I had Niki bring her toilet paper stand and Andrew gave Grayson a roll of toilet paper.  He promptly unrolled the ENTIRE thing!  Jerusha rerolled it and he unrolled it again.  What a special birthday!

Here's Grayson just chilling in the middle of the room, soaking up the attention.

After we opened presents, it was time for cake.  Once Grayson was in position, he definitely was excited!

And here's his cake!  Also, note the duck.  Still there.  Before we gave him the cake we of course sang Happy Birthday to him.

Grayson got to keep his special birthday onesie on for the cake smash, but we did take off his other clothes.  He got a bunch of frosting on his legs and hands, but never put his fingers in his mouth!  Monica did feed him some cake though at least.

Here's Brooke and Audrey under the balloon arch I made!

After we got Grayson cleaned up, he got to go back down and play.  You may notice the toilet paper extends right up next to him.

I got a birthday picture with my little buddy under the arch.

Brooke made party favor bags for everyone who came to the party.  Monica cut ears on the bags, then Brooke drew a bear face on all of them.  She drew a picture for everyone, and added candy and vampire fangs into everyone's bag.  During the party she even ran around asking people if they needed more water, etc. and helped everyone out!  She was super!  Anyway, here are Brooke and Winry with Niki and Jerusha and their fangs!

Here's Monica with Grayson.

The original plan was to drive home Friday, but we definitely didn't pack up after Grayson's party on Thursday, so we ended up staying an extra day.  We spent most of Friday making Halloween shirts using the Cricut.  I have no pictures of making all these shirts, but hopefully next week we'll have some pictures of us wearing those shirts.

We drove home on Saturday, and actually went down and across I 70.  The two routes were within 10 minutes of each other.  On our way to Grand Junction Grayson started crying, and cried for probably about 30 minutes when he should have been taking a nap.  He didn't have his duck in his hand, so I leaned back to look for it and it was behind his head!  Once I pulled it out and handed it to him, he was much more comfortable and went right to sleep!  He kept his duck in his car seat with him the ENTIRE drive.  He's never done that before.  Even his pacifier would get thrown out every now and then when he was younger.

When we got to Grand Junction we stopped at the big park, and there were ducks in the pond so we went over and watched them for a while.

We made it home safely, and I was able to finish my talk so that I was ready for church the next day.  Here's Grayson at breakfast the next morning.  Still has that duck with him.  We actually had a duck scare at church.  Grayson left it at our row, and we missed it when we packed up to leave and didn't realize it until we got home.  I was getting ready to go back to the church and search for it when we heard a knock on the door.  The Ropers (who watch Jelly for us) had seen the duck in the chapel and saw Grayson with it earlier and brought it over for us!  What a miracle!  Grayson learned his lesson and has not let his duck out of his sight since.  In fact, we have to take it away when we put him to bed.

Jelly was excited to have us back so that she could sleep on all our stuff.  She loves laying on the tops of suitcases, and loved the box filled with Grayson's stuffed animals we took out for decorations.

On Sunday, Brooke lost another tooth!  This is her third.  She was very excited!  This one has been throwing me off more than the other ones.  I feel like you don't notice people's front bottom teeth as much, and every once in a while it catches me off guard when I see she's missing a tooth!

That's all for last week!  This post is a week late, but there was enough going on with Grayson's birthday that it definitely deserved it's own post.  I don't know that I'll have time for another post today, but if I wrote it now I'd miss half of Halloween, so maybe it's for the best.  I'll hopefully get out a Halloween post tomorrow.  Fingers crossed.
