This was a bit of a crazy week with us being homeless for about half of it. There was a lot to get done in order for us to get to Texas. Monday morning the roofers came to finally finish the roof. They were supposed to do it all Friday, then come back Saturday, then we came home from church with them in our dumpster grabbing furniture on Sunday, and then finally Monday they came back to work. Grayson enjoyed watching them.
The real problem with the roofing delays is that the movers were also coming Monday to load up our truck. Now technically, with a group on a roof and a group in the house, they should be able to work together just fine. However, the roofers kept throwing stuff down onto the driveway and hanging their nail gun hoses in the way of the movers. They also wouldn't get their stuff out of the way in the road, as you can see, their trailer is in the way of the moving truck. Well, both groups got started, and I headed to the basement to work, and then about an hour later I heard a bunch of ringing on the doorbell. I came up to see what was going on, and the police were there... I don't really have the details, but what I've pieced together is that one of the roofers threatened a mover with a knife, and then one of the roofers also called the police and said a mover pulled a gun on him. In the end, one of the roofers was taken away with the police... Again, I don't really know the details, but at least the roof got finished and the truck packed, AND our house didn't become a crime scene!
Brooke ended up with strep and feeling pretty bad on Monday. She stayed home with me and took a nap in the basement. We're pretty lucky we didn't throw away these couch cushions with the couch! I don't remember what else we used them for, but they made a great impromptu bed for Brooke while everything else in the house got loaded onto a truck!
In the afternoon they also came to pick up Luna to ship her down to Texas for us. Spoiler, she made it just fine!
Here we all are Tuesday morning, getting ready to get in the car and drive away. The Westbroeks let us borrow their air mattresses, and when they came to get them in the morning they grabbed a picture for us. It was just in time too, because as we took this people were getting ready to replace the rain gutters! Oh, and the guy came to pick up the dumpster.
As for us? We snuck away to sign the papers to sell our house, leaving ol'... well, we never named our house... but we left it behind. Pretty crazy. We lived there for almost 9 years, and all of our kids were born there. It's exciting to head to a new opportunity and a new house, but that house is pretty special to our family.
After signing papers we were back in the car to start the drive to Texas. Oh, right after the movers left Monica realized the double stroller was still in the car, so you can also see we packed it to the roof to fit everything in.
The kids were super amazing for both days of the drive. There wasn't much complaining and in general we all had a good time. I mean, it's never the best day to just sit in a car, but they weren't the worst days either.
This was a pretty big few days for Jelly. The only times she's left our house have been to go to the vet, to stay at the Packers the one weekend we listed our house, and then to move. She did superb as well. There was a little meowing for maybe the first 10-15 minutes of each drive, but then she'd calm down and basically just sleep. When we first got to our hotel room she ran and hid behind the bed, but I fished her out and blocked it off, and eventually she started exploring. The second hotel she seemed a bit more comfortable and poked around the room more on her own.
On the second day I even let her poke her head out to look out the window. She eventually tried to squeeze her way out of the carrier. We wanted to let her our of the carrier and to wander the car, however, my big worry is that she'd end up crawling around the drivers feet and pedals, and it just wouldn't be save, so in the carrier she stayed.
We stopped at a Chick-fil-a for lunch, and I took the girls in to use the bathroom. While we were in there we looked over and saw Monica at the drive thru window!
On Thursday we headed to our signing in the morning and signed all our papers to buy our house. Our realtor got a snack box for the kids, and a bunch of toys, so we were all entertained!
And finally, we made it to our house! We actually didn't get possession until a few hours later. The sellers signed a few hours later than us, and then we had to wait for things to process, but we were in the house before the end of the day. However, the house was completely empty, and we really just had clothes with us.
So we stayed in the hotel for one more night! Here's Monica and Grayson having breakfast in the morning before the girls and I joined them.
We took a luggage cart back up with us, and everyone hopped on for a ride!
On Friday we had stuff delivered from Costco. We had to get a new washer and dryer and fridge, and we also got a mattress (Brooke's upgrading to a queen) and a couch. Here they are getting everything off the truck.
The Costco deliverables were just enough to get us through the night. Monica and I slept on the mattress, the girls slept on the couch, and Grayson slept in his closet. Grayson really likes the closet in his room. Like, he loves it so much we considered putting his bed in there. In the end we didn't but he'll still go into his closet to sleep some nights.
The kids were having a grand old time on the mattress the next day. This was basically all we had to play with.
And here's everyone sleeping Saturday morning. I must have gotten my timings wrong on the last two pictures. Grayson must have been taking a nap in his closet, and the kids were all playing on the mattress Friday night.
The movers came Saturday and unloaded all our stuff. Now our house is full of boxes. I spent Saturday going all over the place moving boxes and unloading things. I was at the house all day, but ended up with 18,000+ steps and walked over 10 miles! What a day!
Jelly enjoyed exploring, and the boxes helped her get all over the house. She spends most of her time under our bed, but does wander the house some too.
Somehow this ninja costume was one of the first things we found. Good thing too, because people from our new ward brought us dinner, and you always need to make a good, ninja first impression.
Church was great on Sunday. We happened to land in the ward with the biggest primary, and there were at least 2 other kids about as loud as Grayson in sacrament meeting! He was definitely the loudest in our old ward, so it was welcome to hear some other loud kids!
By the end of Sunday our front room was looking potentially normal!
However, looking down the hall you almost can't even see the front door! There are still a lot more boxes to go through, and a lot more work getting everything in its place, but we're working through it!
