Katie's Baby Shower

Hello everyone!  This past week feels like it flew by! But fret not, we were able to capture a few moments.  One of Monica's friends from growing up, Katie, is about ready to have a baby, and so on Saturday we headed to their house for a baby shower.  She's about 37 weeks, so just a few more weeks until the baby should be here!  We had a great time hanging out with them and some of their friends and family.  They also had some fun games to play, and I basically won one, but we'll get to that later.

Last Sunday we drove out to the temple for our FHE lesson.  We figured we'd go sit on the temple grounds while we talked about how our bodies are like temples.  The temple has been closed for two months, and is closed still for 1 more while they're remodeling the interior.  Turns out that also means you can't go on the grounds, but fortunately there is a field across the street.  We sat in the grass and had a lesson, followed by the kids running all over the place before I ended up becoming a horse.  Great lessons were learned.

This past week Winry started walking up the stairs backwards...  It's not the most exciting thing I've ever seen (maybe she just had a c-section?) Also her outfit was struggling....  Turns our Brooke does this too, so I think I know where Winry learned it.  She can't quite made it all the way up because she needs to use the railings, and they don't make it to the top of the stairs.  Also, Winry has fallen down the stairs twice semi-recently, so I really don't feel these are the kinds of tricks she needs to be learning... sigh.  Everything's been fine so far.

On Wednesday we all went swimming.  We've been making Wednesday afternoon our swimming day now that the summer is over.  We were doing a good job of going swimming every week until vacations throughout the summer.  Winry spends most of her time in the shallow end playing with these little water bucket/path/flows.  Also, Brooke took this picture!  It's a really good picture too!  The only sign it was Brooke is the little bit of finger in the bottom corners.

Monica and Brooke went to deeper waters (~3'6") so that Brooke could practice swimming over to Monica.  Eventually they came back over to join Winry and me, and I watched the kids while Monica went and swam some laps.

While Monica was gone, Brooke and I tried to take a picture of us from under the water to see what we look like to fish.  When Monica came back from swimming I took off and got in a couple laps before it was time to go.

But before we took off there was still a little time for me to take Brooke over into the deep water to do some jumping in.  While we were there Brooke realized she could touch her toes to the bottom of the pool!  She's getting so big!

That night at bedtime I knelt down on the floor for our family prayer and put my head on the ground, and everyone joined in.  Winry was putting her hands above her head and doing child's pose (yoga), so we all started doing it, well except for Winry who then stopped...

On Thursday for playgroup Monica took the girls to a park a little ways down the road on Arapahoe.  They had a zipline with a big seat on it, and the girls loved it!!  Looks like good times and we'll definitely have to head back sometime with Daddo too!

Winry is starting to talk more and more, and has lately started to learn some songs.  Brooke loves to sing to her, and that definitely helps her learn.  This past week they were singing the coo-coo clock song.

On Friday afternoon Winry finished her snack and started talking into her empty container.  Not exactly the same thing, but this reminded me of sucking a cup onto your face, and I remembering doing that when I was a kid.  I remember trying to see who could do it for the longest.  Man, cups are a lot of fun!

Then Friday, after most of us had finished dinner, I started reading family scriptures.  Winry decided she wasn't interested, and started being rather loud.  Possibly it wasn't about scriptures at all because she continued after, and then continued some more, but she didn't start being really loud until I started reading...

On Saturday morning we went to a near-ish by farmers market and had a look around.  We ended up getting some produce that was a good deal, and saw a lot of other fun things.  On our way back to the car we walked by a little bench outside a store, and it fit our kids perfectly!

That afternoon we headed to Katie and David's house for a baby shower.  We had a lot of fun catching up, and they had some fun games to play as well.  The kids enjoyed coloring, and there was another little girl there that Brooke played with.  It was also Winnie the Pooh themed so there were some stuffed animals and the likes around which both the girls enjoyed.  I got to be one of the lucky participants in the blindfolded swaddle challenge.  I lost in the tie breaker round because I was slower, but I was also technically the only one to do a proper swaddle.  That said, two of the participants don't have any kids, and I definitely wouldn't have known what to do pre-Brooke.

The only other thing that's really happened since then was church.  And I did consider taking another video of Winry singing, but decided to forgo this week.  She sure is a cutie lately.  Oh, and we also just got back in from the back yard where we all played in the water table.  My role was to sit on a chair and have the girls dump water on me... it was a little cold, but not too bad as it's decently hot outside today.  That's all for this week!
