Happy Halloween! I hope everyone stayed safe! On Friday night we went to our ward trunk or treat. They did a good job managing safety, so I took the kids over. The girls were both Ariel, and I was Link. We all had a good time and the girls were excited to get candy!
Last Sunday night, Winry wanted to help me make dinner. We made a salad to go with it, and she helped with basically everything. I cut up the lettuce and tomatoes, but she spun the lettuce to get the water off and put everything together in the bowl!
Also in Winry news, Winry has been saying a lot that she doesn't like Grayson's belly button because he still has his umbilical cord stub. I was changing Grayson's diaper, and Winry walked up behind me and said "I really like his moan." Brooke said "Oh, is that what you call his belly button?" and Winry said "No, it's what I call that thing under it." Needless to say, Monica and I couldn't stop laughing.
I believe I put in a picture of it snowing to close out the blog last week. Well, on Monday it was time to capitalize! I also was still taking time off work, so the girls and I went out in the morning for some fun snow play! We did a little bit of everything (that we typically do). The girls made terrific snow angels.
And we made a little snow man. It was about 18 degrees (F), and it hadn't ever gotten warm since it started snowing, so the snow didn't really stick together and we couldn't make a large one.
We also did some sledding in loops around the backyard, which is a favorite. We took the turn at the bottom of the hill too fast and dumped the sled, which Brooke loves, but Winry does not. Winry's face ended up getting in the snow, which she was pretty sad about. I got a quick picture before cleaning her off. She was fine in the end, and really most of the snow was on her scarf and only a little got on her face.
Brooke headed inside a few minutes before Winry and I did, and I realized too late that we didn't all get a picture together outside. Here's Winry and me right before we headed in to have some hot chocolate with Brooke!
Winry held Grayson again. Still not for too long, but she's getting more comfortable with it.
Monday afternoon, I played our Pokemon board game with the kids. We don't play the real/full game, we just use part of the board and move back and forth catching Pokemon, but they LOVE it! We had a lot of fun, and then wanted to keep playing until they caught all 150 of them. I was "rude" and cut the game short, but probably not until after an hour or so.
In the middle of the night I was holding Grayson after Monice fed him, and he decided he either wasn't done, or wanted to be an opportunist, and went for my bicep. It didn't work.
We sent Brooke to get him a hat one day, and all of the cute hats had to come down. I really like this picture in his football hat with his fox.
I played Book of Mormon Big Dig with the girls on Tuesday. We had a lot of fun, and I really like that from it they've learned a lot of the "artifacts" of the Book of Mormon, like the sword of Laban, or the Jaredite barges. While we were playing, Winry had to have the die move her pawn around the board after she rolled. When you play with little kids, it's not about taking quick turns.
I helped Brooke make some lunchables with these little 4 divider Tupperwares that we got, and she really wanted to go eat hers outside. It was still really cold, but I told her I would take a chair out front in the sun with her and we could eat out there. We had a good chat while we enjoyed our lunch!
Tuesday late afternoon we went out to ride the scooter, and ended up playing in the snow some. Winry basically took right to stomping through the front yard to make foot prints. Brooke stuck with the scooter for a bit longer.
Eventually Brooke noticed icicles on the bottom of the cars and we started playing with those, which led to picking up snow chunks and throwing them in the road. To clarify, we were throwing both icicles and snow in the road. I got a slow motion of Winry throwing an icicle, and Brooke throwing some snow that I really liked too. In the end they started rubbing the snow off of Luna and singing songs until their hands got cold and we went inside.
That night Brooke made a nest on the floor to sleep in. She made a ring of stuffed animals and laid out a blanket. It basically took up the whole floor, but on the bright side Winry didn't come out of her bed to "tell us about her dream" 30 seconds after we left their room!
The girls are ever observant, and this past week Monica caught Winry with the boppy and a little noise maker owl. Winry was nursing the owl.
Here's a picture of Grayson sleeping on mom! He sure is a super cutie! Also, Brooke did some "pose" dancing for us on Wednesday evening while drinking her milk.
In the middle of the night on Wednesday/Thursday Jelly took umbridge to our new front door mat and when I woke up to help Monica with Grayson I was greeted with the following sight at the front door. Can't you just feel her saying "wasn't me..."
On Thursday some of the old masks Monica made for Brooke's second birthday resurfaced, and Winry made an "excellent" monkey!
Brooke really wanted to wear this new dress as well. I don't remember if she wanted to because it matched Grayson's stuff, but once she had it on I had her camouflage on the changing mat. If you, like me, are wondering where Brooke's body is, it's between her head, hands, and legs.
The girls did preschool on Thursday, and I joined them for the candy corn activity. It may be hard to believe that I would take a little break from work to snatch some candy corn, but I sure did! Also, it was nice to get my good morning songs again. At the start of preschool the girls sing a good morning song to everyone there. You put a persons name in the song each time you sing it. My name always get's a turn, and they shout it super loud to make sure I hear it in the office, especially if I have my door closed because I'm in a meeting! It's always nice to be remembered!
Brooke, like Winry, also noticed what new activities had been going on, and princess kitty also needed to be fed this past week.
Here's Grayson sitting in the swing, staring up at the hanging bears. He likes the swing so far.
On Halloween, Monica came up with all kinds of fun ideas to help the day feel special. We did not go trick or treating around the neighborhood, though we did go to the ward trunk or treat the night before. Anyway, one thing we did was have spider sandwiches for lunch. The girls really liked them.
Dad had spider lasagna. Similar idea, but way classier!
Monica caught Grayson smiling in his sleep this past week! While going through pictures for the blog I found a lot of short videos of Grayson sleeping. I asked Monica what they all were and she said he would be making funny faces or sounds in his sleep, but most of the videos missed everything and were of nothing. This picture was good though.
We weighed Grayson on Saturday to see how he was doing. If our math checks out (and our scale is accurate) he's been up about 1 oz/day, which is what that doctors want for a newborn! He's got his next doctors appointment Tuesday morning, so we'll see how he's doing then.
And here's Grayson being awake in Monica's big poof of blankets.
One person at the trunk or treat had masks tied to the candy to "parachute" them to the kids bags, and tossed the candy over to the kids as they went by. Winry put her mask on all by herself!
Saturday afternoon the girls made haunted houses! They had a lot of fun decorating them, and they are very spooky.
We got a picture of all the kids in their Halloween clothes on the front porch with our decorations! We do have some spider webs and giant spiders up just to the right of this picture, as well as our orange skeleton.
We painted pumpkins in the afternoon too. From left to right they are Brooke's (Pikachu), Monica's (Harry Potter), mine (Trogdor), and Winry's (Pikachu). The girls painted various other pokemon, etc. around their pumpkins as well, but the centerpieces are on display. Also, we left out a bowl of candy.
For dinner we had jack-o-lantern quesadillas. I wasn't going to include a picture of them because there have already been so many pictures, but look at all of the sour cream on Winry's face! She wasn't dipping her quesadilla, she was sliding the whole thing across her plate and then taking a bite, so the sour cream was EVERYWHERE!
Here we all are on Halloween night, ready for trick or treating. Winry made a last minute change and just HAD to be Pikachu when she saw the costume in the bin from last year.
We didn't go out trick or treating, but instead went through the house. The girls went to every single door in the house and knocked and got candy. I even crammed myself into the hall linen closet. Monica climbed into a shower so they could knock on the shower curtain! The girls liked it, and were happy they got to go, but Brooke was still sad she didn't get to go around the neighborhood. I'm sure it was hard on her too, she has always been an all star trick or treater, just go back to last year's post if you don't remember!
I had a package come yesterday to the mailbox that I forgot about, but today we went out and got the mail. I ordered Pokemon Jr Adventure Game! I thought the girls would really like it as they're getting REALLY into pokemon right now, and it's even a game designed more toward their age range. It was published back when I was a kid and pokemon first got big, but I was able to find an opened box/brand new contents copy for $10 on ebay. We got it out and tried it today and I think the girls liked it. We'll have to give it another few tries to see for sure.
That's everything I've got for this week. When I was going back looking at the pictures from this week I could hardly believe it. This week definitely felt like two weeks! I don't know if that's good because it was so eventful, or bad because it was just looooong... I think it was good though, and I definitely had a lot of fun! Oh, this past week I also got called to be first councilor in the elder's quorum presidency. I went to church by myself today so that I could get set apart after sacrament meeting. Wish me luck!
