I suppose technically speaking we're only up to two and a half weeks with Grayson, and also technically we'll get to 3 weeks in the upcoming week... but this is his third appearance, so I'm sticking with my choice. The day finally came yesterday, and Gram left us for home. We woke the girls up to say good bye, and tears were shed. As soon as she drove off, I looked around the room and was hit with the realization that "normal life" was now very different. There are now more kids than adults... and so far it's been going fine! Hopefully it stays that way. We had some store pickups that were waiting, so we decided to load everyone into the car, drive around and spend some time together as a family. Grayson LOVES the car and basically just falls asleep right away. For a newborn, immediate sleep is as close to loving something as it gets. Anyway, we also went to Wendy's for lunch and ate it at a park. On my run in the morning I noted that it was quite windy, so I warned Monica and she suggested we bring our pop-up shade tent. Here we all are having lunch together! The wind was strong enough that when I first set it up, Brooke climbed in, and the poles bent in half (they have a hinge there) and collapsed on Brooke! She was okay, but after staking it down I took the back wall seat and kept the tent from falling in on us! Also, the wind was much stronger than in the video for most of the time we were out there, and there were even some really big gusts on top of that! Would I do it again? YES! It was so fun eating out there! To be honest, if everything had gone smoothly and sunny, etc. I don't think it would have been nearly as memorable! That also led to a pretty good "life lesson" if you will, it's not the easy moments we tend to remember, but with the right attitudes the adventures and difficulties can be fond memories as well!
Winry has enjoyed having a changing mat out. All her diaper changes seem to have to be here now for better or worse. And as for potty training, last time Monica asked her Winry said she was going to "wear diapers for the rest of her life."
While Gram was here we had the girls' car seats in her car. Initially that was because we were in the hospital, she had them so they could go anywhere. They stayed there for convenience since she was parked behind the van in the driveway. When Brooke went to dance class, Winry came out to see the car without car seats, and enjoyed getting to sit in the regular seats.
During dance class Winry helped me make dinner. We made stir fry together, and after she rinsed the measuring cups and helped them "surf" around the sink! She just loves to play with water. There was a lot of scooping and dumping and swirling.
Brooke started doing a lot of puzzles again. She brought down her puzzle bin and would do most of the puzzles in it. As she finished them, she'd set them side by side and called them her "puzzle graph." Also, what is Winry doing? I don't know, I don't remember being 2. :)
We took Grayson in for this 2 week checkup on Tuesday to see if he was back to his birth weight. He was like an ounce short, but the appointment was also a day early and he'd been tracking weight gain at an ounce a day, so right on track. He also decided to show us how he really felt about having to have a second heel prick when we changed his diaper for his weigh in... When the doctor came in, she said if she was us she would have said "it was like that when I got here!" which is what I had considered saying. When the nurse came in she sighed, cause she had to clean it up...
Winry got her flamingo all dressed and ready to go for the day. You'll notice it was well before she herself was ready!
Jelly has rediscovered her love for the swing. She has been in it for like half of the day, every day! Fortunately she has always seems willing to vacate when Grayson needs a turn. Speaking of swinging/rocking, it has been a popular past time in our house lately!
Here's Winry being a crazy with two pacifiers in her mouth!
Brooke continues to LOVE to hold Grayson. She holds him and hugs him and kisses him and gives him his pacifier! She is so great with him, and loves to hold him every chance she can get.
I don't remember why I was holding Grayson on his tummy this past week, but I know it was making him happier. It was funny/novel, so Brooke took a picture with my phone.
Here's Winry holding Grayson! We took a lot of these pictures this past week. It's just really cute every time we hand Grayson to one of the girls!
Brooke getting some snuggle time!
Monica took some newborn pictures of Grayson this past week. I picked out some of my favorites. These don't really have a story other than newborn photos shoot!
Newborn photos shoot! He's eating his arm!
Newborn photos shoot! Laying like this!
Newborn photos shoot! I can lift my head! ~or~ I'm an old man! Please, who can't see that?
And back to Brooke holding Grayson! Also, I LOVE this plaid swaddle blanket we got! It's a stretch fabric, and those are just the best of the best swaddle blankets. It's so much easier to get them on tight, and they hold arms in so much better!
One night Winry decided she wanted Brooke to sleep in her bed with her. Here they are "going to bed." They proceeded to stay up for like the next 2 or 3 hours, and were possibly still awake when I went to bed. I honestly don't know. They were playing together in their room most of the time, and the rule was essentially if you're in your room, it's fine.
Sometimes Brooke puts on her big bunny socks when it's cold. They typically don't end up staying on for very long, so Winry found then and slipped them on. They complimented her outfit rather well!
On Friday I took the girls running. It has been quite a while, but it went pretty well. Typically it hurts my upper back/arms to push them for the first few runs, but I've been doing some weight training lately and things went much better than usual! The girls both loved the run and want to make it more regular, so I told them we could. When we were heading through Cottonwood park on our way back to home, I saw what I first thought was a little leaf blowing toward the stroller, and as we got closer I realized it was a little mouse!! I quickly swerved so we didn't hit it, and we stopped and I took a picture.
Friday afternoon I was holding Grayson and he just couldn't believe what was going on! Look at that disbelief!
I don't think we have anything BYU in newborn, but Grayson donned his football hat to cheer for the Cougars on Friday night! Still undefeated!
On Saturday morning Gram left us...! Naturally that means... the girls held Grayson again! I told you, these are main stay pictures right now!
Winry doesn't quite have it down like Brooke does, hence the pillow to help her out. She also typically only holds him for a few seconds where as Brooke will hold him until we ask for him back for some reason.
This morning the rocking chair was brought out, and Brooke was trying to come up with all the crazy ways she could ride on it.
Winry got really sad about having to get her hair done right before church and went upstairs to snuggle her blankie and have her pacifier in bed. Grayson headed up to try to help her feel better. She was really happy to share her bed with Grayson for a few minutes, and it helped calm her down! She even came down for the primary call a few minutes after we left her room!
