Post-Vacation Recovery Week

Hello everyone!  I hope you're all doing fantastic!  We had a great week recovering from vacation travel, celebrating pioneer day, and even going to a birthday party (Happy Birthday Eden!)!  In fact, here's a picture of everyone (er..., under 4) having a blast at the party!

I wasn't around for this picture, but it looks like Monica took the kids for a walk.  Now that Winry is starting to sit up she doesn't always need to be in her car seat to go in the stroller.  Also, they're both wearing BYU, which means that Brooke picked her BYU shirt, and then Winry just HAD to match!  Brooke really likes to match with Winry when possible.

For pioneer day we did our annual celebration of making butter and biscuits.  Here's Brooke giving the heavy cream a good shake!  We're getting better at making butter, this year we were able to get it done before the biscuits came out of the oven, and now we've been using our home made butter since!  What pioneers we are!

That night Brooke and I played the Switch together.  When we were out in Minnesota my brother has a SNES and NES classic, and Brooke wanted to try.  So I read some game names to her, and when I said Kirby she said "Yeah! Let's play Curvy!"

So now that we're home she wants to play Curvy together every once in a while.  She typically makes it less than 10 minutes till she's ready to do something else, so that's good.

Winry continues to interact more and more with the world around her.  She loves to play with the bears that hang down in her swing now!  She's also working on her karate kicks!

I think the most impressive part of this picture is that Brooke is sleeping under Jelly.  Lately Brooke has started to get nervous around Jelly.  Jelly likes to hide around corners and jump out at us when we walk by.  This has made Brooke a little scared of her, so now, as an example, Brooke will make Monica or I go up the stairs in front of her and check for Jelly.  We've talked to her a little about it, and how Jelly just likes to surprise people, and that she's playing and wants us to do it too.  Brooke hasn't jumped around a corner and scared Jelly yet, which is probably a good thing, but at least sometimes they can be close together.

Also, missed this till I was going through Monica's pictures for the blog.  Looks like Brooke got to hold Winry this past week! (I was going to lay out a blanket for Winry to play on, so I asked Brooke if she wanted to hold her for me while I got the blanket ready, and she did a great job!)

This week one of the apples I took to work was really brown in the center, but a great apple outside of that.  Also, one of the seeds was sprouting... I don't think I've ever seen that before...  When I was done I threw the apple away, but now that I'm thinking about it, I probably should have brought it home and planted it in the back yard...

I forgot to get a picture of this last week, but when we were out in Minnesota we got Brooke a sticker book for being a super trooper in the airport all day.  It had a bunch of sheets of reusable stickers, and then scene sheets to put them in.  So there was a sheet of farm animals, etc. and a sheet of fish and then scenes of a farm and the ocean.  Well, Brooke wanted to do the dinosaur stickers first, and she just stuck them into whatever scene she wanted.  My favorite though, was the brontosaurus swinging from the vines in the jungle!  The dinosaur drinking upside down next to it isn't bad either.

This past week Jelly was laying on the back of the couch, stretched out, and just froze!  She just sat like this for a few minutes, and Brooke was standing next to her yelling "Oh Jelly! Oh Jelly!"

So, I mentioned Eden's birthday party earlier in the post.  Her party was on Saturday.  We were going to go swimming for her party, but Saturday morning looked to be a pretty cool, non-swimming friendly kind of day, so the party got moved to a park.  Brooke had a lot of fun playing with her friends, and they even had a Pinata!  Brooke is basically an expert at pinatas!!  Eventually Eden's dad, Kevin, stepped in to help out and break it open!  The candy spilled out and Brooke walked up, took 1 piece, and came back...  I kept sending her back to get more, because one piece was not enough for Monica and I, and every time she'd just come back with 1 more piece... so eventually I went and helped her :)!  Anyway, Brooke had a ton of fun, and they had heart shaped sunglasses and beach balls as party favors, and Brooke wants to wear her sunglasses all the time!  So be ready for those to show up in pictures!

Saturday night one of our friends was having a house warming party, and also asked Monica to have a Norwex party as part of it.  Monica took everything out of her bag so she could repack it and make sure everything was in it, but as soon as she pulled the last thing out, Jelly climbed in and took a nice long nap!  Somehow we still made it on time.

Winry has been being a trooper with eating solids!  She's usually happy to eat, and has a big smile the whole time unless you don't feed her fast enough!  Fortunately I am typically able to keep up with the demand.

In gospel principles today the lesson was on sacrifice.  During the lesson we talked about King Lamoni's father, who after learning the gospel prayed and said "if thou art God, wilt thou make thyself known unto me, and I will give away all my sins to know thee." (Alma 22:18)  When I was young I thought this scripture was funny, I read it as if you are God, let me know, and forgive/take all my sins away.  I have since come to understand that instead, the king is offering to give up all of his impure practices and willingly follow God.  His desire is to change his heart, to give up all of the sinful things he has enjoyed doing in his life, and come unto God.  I encourage everyone to be like Lamoni's father.  Look at your life, find those things that are not in harmony with the gospel, and seek to sacrifice your favorite vices, in order to come closer to our Heavenly Father.  He is waiting, with arms open, for us to come to Him.  I know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love us, and I know that Jesus suffered our sins so that we could repent and become pure again through is Atonement.  In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
