Happy Mothers Day! Mom, I love you! Thanks for all you've done for me throughout my life! Monica, I love you! Thanks for all you do for me and our kids! Lani, I love you! Thanks for raising Monica, and always having Reese's in your purse (and extra in your drawer)! I hope everyone is having a fabulous day! We sure did here, and we even got to make pupusas for dinner! Look at Brooke and Monica go! But we'll get back to that later.
On Monday Monica took the girls grocery shopping, and while they were out Brooke wanted to lay down and "nap" because Alayna, one of her friends from church and preschool, fell asleep in a shopping cart while her parents were shopping. Brooke is totally faking it, but was really excited none the less.
On Monday night a big thunder storm blew in which lasted for about 4 days. Well, the thunder didn't but it rained from Monday night until Friday! It was pretty great because I like the rain, and on Monday night the lightning was crazy! Interesting thing, there was little thunder, or I should say the thunder was very quiet. There was a ton of lightning and lots of flashes, but it was all up high in the sky, and so it was all very quiet down here on earth! It was pretty fun to watch the storm for a while on our front porch.
On Tuesday while I was at work something happened, I don't remember what but Monica might insert it right here (she either didn't get food that she wanted or didn't get held...it's really a toss up which), and Winry got sad. Well, Brooke was more than willing to hold Winry on her lap until she felt better! I would say the best part of this is that Winry actually let Brooke hold her. I feel like sometimes she is rather picky about who holds her, but these sisters are snuggle buddies!
That night we went to the rec center to go swimming, and we saw Eden and Royal there! Eden is Brooke's best friend, and it was not planned to cross paths, so that was an extra special treat! Also, Brooke continued to jump in, and she even said her feet were touching the bottom of the pool. She's doing a lot better with water! Hooray!
Winry has really been getting into shoes lately. If she ever finds a pair of shoes her size around the house she'll carry them over to Monica or I, and once we take them she starts lifting her feet until we put the shoes on. Well, when we went swimming the other day it was her first time wearing sandals, and I wasn't sure how it would go since they go between your toes, but she loved them. Enough that the next morning she wanted them on over her pajamas! I didn't really think they'd fit, but for better or worse, they did. It's like socks and sandals to a whole new level... You rock it Winry, rock it while you can. People probably think this looks cute.
On Wednesday morning Monica decided to do a surprise run to the store in PAJAMAS?!?! The girls loved it! Or at least, Brooke loved it! So mission accomplished. Winry hid under her blanket while they were out in the parking lot to keep dry.
Jelly has started to take most of her naps in Brooke's room lately. This past week she even upgraded to the bed! Brooke has also said she thinks she's ready to leave her door open a crack so that Jelly can come in at night. Winry has been waking up a bunch lately, so we haven't been leaving Brooke's door open, but I'm glad they're still friends.
Brooke really loves to read to Winry. Of course she can't actually read, but you wouldn't know it watching. She likes to read that book to Winry for a bedtime story, and we typically read it every night while brushing teeth. What a great big sister.
Saturday was a case of too many projects. Dennis came out to help finish up our shower pan, and so that's all ready to go now for tile. In addition I spent much of the day in the basement cleaning up the floors (the dry wallers were supposed to, but they didn't do a very good job of cleaning... or taping...) so they'd be ready for tile and carpet. Monica took the kids to Home Depot to get plants for the garden, and while they were out she called the doctors office and headed over for an appointment for Winry. They said Winry is just fine, so hopefully her cough and runny nose ( and ZERO sleeping!) go away soon. She's had it for over a week! But we also just noticed she's getting a MOLAR!! WHAT!? She only has her front 2 teeth on the bottom and she's already getting her molars on the top! Anyway, I hope she starts feeling better soon, and sleeping better soon too!
Anyway, everyone came home and it was lunch and nap time. Once Winry woke up I took the girls out Mother's day shopping, and it was very successful as you will shortly see. While we were out Monica painted edges on the ceiling, and when we got back we all went out to work in the garden for a little while. What a day! It was very tiring.
This morning the kids woke up earlier than expected, so in stead of me getting a head start on breakfast, we ALL got a head start on breakfast... The girls were actually pretty good while I was cooking, which doesn't usually happen. Typically Winry is crying for food the moment she wakes up, but she made it! I did have to let them both eat before we took anything up for Monica for breakfast in bed though. We had German Pancakes and orange juice for breakfast today. It was a real winner, and while Winry doesn't care for apple juice, she loves orange juice! After breakfast Monica came down to join us and we opened presents. Earlier in the week Brooke found something she really wanted for Mothers day, so she got to open her present first. She knew exactly what was in there, but she did a great job acting excited and surprised! Also, Tiana (mentioned in the video) is Brooke's baby doll.
After Brooke opened her present it was Monica's turn, and she started with her gift from Brooke! I would definitely say Monica was surprised by the gift and definitely didn't guess what it was. In addition to her kitty hair brush she also got some instant pot accessories from Winry and me.
At church the primary sang a song for all the moms, and it was Brooke's first time getting to go up! It was very exciting, and she knew all the words. We encouraged her to sing louder next time so we would be able to hear her too!
After church we had crepes and then changed. Brooke wanted to put on her BYU dress, and she just looked so cute! Monica curled her hair today with her curling iron, and Brooke looked so adorable all day long!!
Brooke and I headed out for an afternoon of sun in the back yard during Winry's nap. It was decently hot, so I looked at the UV index and we put some sunscreen on. Brooke loved playing with the water table, and she helped the toy frog and fish learn to jump in the water by forcefully throwing them down into the little bucket. After swimming lessons were done it was time to put on "sunscreen and water." This was really water and water, and Brooke just needed to help me get sunscreen and water on! What this really ended up being was a leg, arm and neck, and nose massage from hands dipped in cold water. The water was worth it, and actually even felt pretty nice in the heat outside! I think I got a massage for at least an hour, and I did occasionally take turns and give Brooke one too, but all in all, a wonderful afternoon! Probably better than Monica's inside! Happy Mothers Day! In fact, Monica saw from the window and came out and asked what in the world was going on!? So she got one turn.
After our water fun we cleaned up in the house and started working on dinner. The missionaries came over for dinner today, and we got everything ready so that we could all make pupusas together! I had to hold Winry most of the time, but I did make a couple. The food was great!
After the missionaries left it was time to get ready for bed, but not before Winry had a chance to go crazy and do THIS on the couch! We had a lot of fun, and naturally Brooke had to join in too! No one got hurt, so it was a successful romp on the couch.
Another Mother's Day, another success! I'm pretty sure it's too late in the day to mess this one up! I hope everyone is having a wonderful day, and make sure you say thanks to your mom, and any other mom you see today! Have a great week ahead, and thanks to all the moms out there!!
