Hello hello! Fancy goes it? I hope everyone is doing fantastic! We had a rough week out here, or at least I did. I'd guess it wasn't quite the same for the rest of the family, but this week was work work work for me! If I wasn't exercising at night after work I was working on something around the house, and I spent much of Saturday working around the house. Here I am after conquering one of the trees in our front yard! You can see the storm coming in behind me to mourn nature's loss and to make a strike of vengeance. Unfortunately for nature I was trying to fix our sprinkler system (I'll get to that story later) and so the rain was actually a blessing in the mean time!
Jelly continues to be a cat, which means hiding in the smallest places possible. Some of the best hiding spots expand to allow you to fit into them as well. Also, with her under the mat I was eternally trapped in the bathroom and at her whim, because the door opens over the mat... until it comes to the cat-lump...
I don't remember if I talked about the water table last week, but the girls sure do love it!! They had a ton of fun! We unfortunately opened it right after we got it for Winry's birthday which was 5 months ago, and subsequently lost all of the screws and the drain plug... Fortunately working on the basement I have extra screws, so I was able to assemble the table, and I put down some gorilla tape to close the hole in the bottom! I'm sure some day (probably in years after the water table is gone) we'll stumble upon that drain plug and screws again... someday...
At preschool on Tuesday the kids be getting crazy, so spontaneous nap time ensued. It started with one little girl wanting to take a nap, and slowly more people wanting to join in. Hopefully a few of the kids still learned something.
On Wednesday Monica took the kids to the zoo. The lion came right up to say hello when they got there, and honestly, I think the look in his eye is a bit scary... Thank goodness for safety glass, am I right? Also the grizzly bears are over in their new habitat, and Brooke loves to see them! Also, she brought her little flamingo along to say hi to all of her cousins!
Winry is getting to the age where she notices the animals and gets really excited. I haven't been to the zoo yet where this has happened, so I need to go again soon! She really liked the elephants, and from the angle of the picture it looks like they went to the elephant show.
Also, I don't know what is going on, but every time the family goes without me the fishing cats are out and on display! They have a back room area, and are technically nocturnal, and I think I've seen them out once! But they parade in front of the kids if I'm not there! At least I get to see pictures and videos, and the girls were super ecstatic to say hello.
Monica has been looking for a new swimsuit for this year, so she ordered some to try on Amazon. When they came Brooke snuck one on!
On Thursday Monica finished cleaning out the garden and put down top soil! She has since planted a garden in there, but didn't take any pictures of the final product. If we remember we can get one this next week. We got a whole bunch of fruits and vegetables, and hopefully they all grow great! Brooke is super excited, and loves to go help Monica out there too.
On Friday Monica signed up to become a Hobby Lobby-ist and went on a shopping spree with her friends. I got to hang out with the kids and we made pizza for dinner! Everyone went to bed pretty easily too, which is great with Winry who still nurses.
Once the kids were in bed it was to the basement to start laying some tile. We're getting our carpet installed soon, so I need to get some tile in a few spots as the carpet guys told me things look better if the tile is down first and the carpet comes to meet it. On Friday I put down the thin set and laid the tile.
Here it is all done. The cans are on one of the tiles that wasn't sitting quite how I wanted. it's sloped by the drain in the floor and that side wasn't pushed down as far as I would have liked. I really like the tile we chose! And, as is the running theme I also forgot to take a picture of the final project after I did the grout on Saturday! Now there's a washer and dryer in there again... so maybe someday?
We finally arrive to Saturday. Saturday morning I had a 10 mile run in the morning, and then it was out to fix the sprinklers. One of the lines is getting choked, and you can hear the problem somewhere around the pine tree. Well, I was digging out the line, and the line runs straight under the pine tree. Also, there was a rather foreboding root growing straight down from the trunk to the sprinkler lines. Not a good omen... and since we didn't like the tree anyway it was time for it to go! I tied a rope on the top, and then Monica pulled on the rope while I cut the tree in half. Everything went very smoothly! I was able to get the top half of the tree cleaned up just before the rain and lightning started.
Since I couldn't work outside I instead made a trip to Home Depot to get some more stuff we need in the basement. I got a few more electrical things to finish up the lights in the basement, and I got a 5 gallon bucket of paint for the walls (which happened to be $40 off, had no clue!), and some peat moss for the garden. Really a random smattering of things, but all needed. I got back home just in time to head off for Katie and Davids house as they had invited us over to see their new place. We brought a basketball as a house warming present (they have a hoop there), and they were so kind and had gifts for the girls! They had been out baby shopping and remembered how much Brooke loves books and got some! Winry was wild about the tissue paper!
We had a great time, and their new place looks great! They made brats for dinner, and Brooke really enjoyed their slide in the back yard. David and I even had some time for basketball too. Thanks so much Katie and David!
Today at church one of the speakers encouraged us all to bear our testimonies to each other, so tonight for our family home evening lesson we each got a turn to bear our testimonies. It was Brooke's first time, and she did an amazing job! What a sweet heart! I am so grateful to have such a wonderful family! I am grateful for the gospel, and that we can live together with our families for all eternity. I know the Church of Jesus Christ is true, and I know that through the atonement we can return to live with God again. I know the Book of Mormon is true. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
